Ram Prasad Bismil Punyatithi: Today, on 19 December 2023, we remember the 96th Punyatithi of Ram Prasad Bismil, a great freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for India’s independence.
Bismil was born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in 1897. He was a brilliant student and a passionate patriot. He joined the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), a revolutionary group that fought against British rule.
In 1925, Bismil and his comrades planned the Kakori Conspiracy, an attempt to loot a train carrying British money. The plan failed, and Bismil was arrested and convicted of treason. He was hanged on 19 December 1927, at the age of 30.
