As India commemorates January 22nd, we honor the birth anniversary of the courageous revolutionary Thakur Roshan Singh, born in 1892 in Uttar Pradesh. Beyond being a freedom fighter, Roshan symbolized unwavering defiance against colonial oppression. His Rajput lineage instilled a spirit of independence, leading him to actively participate in the Non-Cooperation Movement and become a key member of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA). Roshan’s bravery was evident in actions like the Kakori train robbery, reflecting the HRA’s motto, “Inquilab Zindabad.”
Despite arrest and torture, Roshan remained steadfast in his commitment to India’s freedom. His poignant letter on the eve of his 1927 execution embodies his selfless dedication and serves as a timeless lesson in unwavering conviction, courage, and sacrifice for the cause of freedom. Thakur Roshan Singh’s legacy continues to inspire us as a torchbearer guiding us towards a just and equitable society.
