Born in 1931, Shree Lal Joshi came from a family of Chippa caste artists, traditionally known as the custodians of Phad painting. He began learning the art form at the young age of 13 under the guidance of his father, Ramchandra Joshi.
Throughout his career spanning over six decades, Shree Lal Joshi not only mastered the traditional techniques of Phad painting but also made significant innovations. He experimented with new themes beyond the usual religious and folk narratives, incorporating historical figures and stories into his vibrant creations.
